Richard J. Salem, a graduate with distinction from Duke Law School, has practiced law in Florida since 1972. He has extensive experience in complex litigation, business transactions, including the representation of businesses in matters involving federal and state governments, as well as transnational matters.
During the course of his career, Mr. Salem has served as lead counsel and participated as a member of trial teams in numerous state and federal proceedings. His diverse experience representing clients in pursuing claims and defending their rights in antitrust, real property, business, financial and regulatory controversies, provides him with a strong and versatile litigation background. He has argued cases before state and federal courts of appeal and represented clients in the Florida Supreme Court and United Sates Supreme Court.
Mr. Salem has been quoted in Self Magazine as one of Seven Highly Effective People and was named “Best of a Generation” by Esquire Magazine. He received the Rick Douglas Advocacy Award for outstanding work in the field of disability rights in 2001. John D. Kemp, co-founder of the American Association of People with Disabilities, has said that “Richard Salem brings new and existing ideas for political participation and active civic involvement to our diverse and, oftentimes, fragmented disability community.”
Recently, Mr. Salem became a founding partner in Furth Salem Mason & Li, LLP, with offices in San Francisco, Florida, Tampa and Beijing. Mr. Salem will focus on antitrust and unfair competition litigation, including the representation of price fixing victims in recovery litigation, as well as transnational business matters.
Mr. Salem is admitted to practice law before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Tax Court, the United States Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeals, the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida, and the Florida Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Bar Association, American Blind Lawyers Association, Florida Bar Association and the International Bar Association.
